of the Hawaii Chapter of The Retired Officers Association
ARTICLE
V Membership
Section
1. The membership of the Chapter shall be composed of:
a. Men and women
who are or have been commissioned officers or warrant officers of the Army,
Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, National Oceanic and Atmospheric
Administration, and Public Health Service, and of the reserve and other
components of these Services and their spouses.
b. Widows and widowers of deceased members or any deceased individual who
would, if living, be
eligible for membership, and former spouses of individuals who would be eligible
for membership.
c. Individuals may be granted honorary membership as set forth in Section
2.e of this Article.
Section
2. The Membership shall consist of five classes:
a. Regular Members -
Those eligible for membership as prescribed in Section 1(a) of this Article,
excluding spouses,
who apply for membership and pay the prescribed annual dues.
b. Associate Members - A spouse of a regular member is designated
an associate member. Spouse's associate membership status is contingent upon the
regular membership of his/her spouse being in good standing.
c. Auxiliary Members - Those eligible as prescribed in Section 1.b of
this Article who apply for membership and pay the prescribed annual dues.
d. Satellite Members - Regular, associate, or auxiliary Chapter members
who meet the satellite's eligibility requirements and pay its prescribed annual
dues, if any.
e. Honorary Members
- The Executive Committee, as defined in Article XII, may grant certain
individuals honorary membership in recognition of their services to the United
States, their nation, the retired community, or the Chapter.
Recommendations for honorary membership may be submitted in writing to
the Executive Committee by any member. An
individual eligible for regular membership is not eligible for honorary
membership. However, if he or she holds an elective government office, then
honorary membership may be granted during his or her tenure of office.
Honorary membership shall not convey any voting rights. Payment of dues
for honorary members may be waived by the Executive Committee.
Section
3. Application for regular or
auxiliary membership shall be submitted to the Executive Committee in writing.
The Executive Committee may accept or reject any application or
recommendation for membership.
Section
4. The Executive Committee may drop any member for good and sufficient reasons
after he or she has had an opportunity to be heard. The Chapter shall maintain a
record of all such proceedings.
Section
5. Regular members are required to
hold and maintain membership in MOAA. Auxiliary
members are encouraged but not required to hold and maintain such membership.
ARTICLE VI
Voting
Section
1. Except as otherwise provided in
these bylaws, all questions coming before the membership shall be decided
by a majority vote at a regularly scheduled meeting.
Section
2. Only regular and auxiliary
members in good standing, actually present at a function of the Chapter, are
entitled to vote. Proxy voting
shall not be permitted. Absentee voting shall be permitted provided a defined
and published known item to be voted has been announced with proper advance
notice.
ARTICLE VII
Membership Privileges
Section
I. All members are eligible
to serve in any capacity in the Chapter.
