Marines from U.S. Marine Corps Forces, Pacific at Camp Smith and Marine Corps Base Hawaii-Kaneohe Bay will assist the Deputy Chief-of-Mission from the New Zealand Embassy to the United States, The Honorable Ian Hill, and the Australian Consul-General, the Honorable John Quinn, in the annual observance of ANZAC Day at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, Wednesday, April 25th at 10 a.m.
This annual ceremony honors the Australia and New Zealand Army Corps, which suffered horrendous casualties at the battle for Gallipoli, Turkey, in 1915. This year marks the 92nd anniversary of this historic battle, and the 35th year Marines have provided all the ceremonial support for this event, to include the U.S. Marine Corps Forces Pacific Band, Honor Platoon, and Rifle Detail. Representatives of government, military organizations, veterans groups and civic organizations will place wreaths. The public is welcome to attend.
